Membership Criteria

To ensure the integrity of our association, APSA membership is open to security service agencies that meet the following standards:

  • Must have held a valid agency license over the past 12 months.
  • Must derive at least 75% of annual revenue from uniformed security guard operations.
  • Must operate in compliance with all applicable regulatory provisions, including agency licencing conditions.
  • Must adhere to APSA’s Code of Ethics and demonstrate commitment to professional training and operational standards.
  • Must warrant and covenant that they do not misclassify employees as independent contractors to avoid paying payroll source deductions, overtime, holiday and vacation pay or any related entitlements under prevailing employment standards legislation.
  • Must be sponsored by a current APSA agency in good standing.
  • Must be willing to undergo a background investigation and site visit by the Membership Committee.
  • Must provide proof of valid insurance, including commercial general liability and workers' compensation.

Additional requirements apply for agencies offering canine or armed guard services.
